who, me?

when i was way way young (i don't remember really, but small enough), i used to have this annoying auto-reply of, "who, me?" whenever someone would ask me a question... (okay, maybe not _whenever_, but certainly more often than was necessary).

i have no idea how long this lived, or where i got it from... and really, i can only remember two instances:

1) the sizzler. it was a birthday party for one of the neighborhood kids. i was sitting at one end of a long table, and he was sitting at the other. he asked me something, and my auto-reply reared its ugly head. he really wasn't talking to anyone else. i think we were even making eye contact at the time of the question. (at least the story sounds good that way)

2) pre-parade something or other. my parents had dragged us (us == me and my brothers) out to some "thing" where we were helping glue flowers to "floats" (why are they called "floats?") to be used in a parade in a couple days. it was night-time. i was happily slapping flower buds on some wheel when this guy standing on the table switches on some bright ass light and points a camera right in my face... "so, are you having fun tonight (little boy)?" "oh, i wish you hadn't done that..." i have no idea how the shot turned out, but i have a feeling it was all live... maybe debbie davidson and... hmm... who would it have been way back then... any how, perhaps debbie and the other anchor had a good chuckle at that and saved the late night newscast.

why am i remembering this now? i have no idea. but there you go.
