the morning after
physics: 2, joel: 0

the route: down division, across broadway to fifth, down fifth to depot, left on depot to main, right on main to light shore (?) well the little road before the lotus building, across the train tracks and follow the road around to the left near the rowing club, take a right on the path near the fence and follow it around to the park and get spit out on whitmore lake/barton drive, follow barton down and around past the leslie science center and leslie golf course, end up in some sub-division behind work and ride on in.

the results: i was hoping that the recent warmth would have burned off all the ice, but, nay... the section near the rowing club proved to be very icy.

listening intently to the sound of cracking ice under 700x32 tires is not something you should be doing when you're rolling on 700x32 tires and cracking the ice beneath you.

two spills later, i walked the remainder of the super icy part and found some decent slushy ice/snow stuff that i could ride on...

the bike: i can barely notice the increased rolling resistance because of the fatter tires. barely. maybe i'm just out of shape. it defintely rides higher than my road bike (amazing what a little change in bottom bracket height can do). it really feels like my ass is sticking up like a stink bug. the wheel base is noticably longer as well.

i have yet to find a place (nor do have i regained the stamina) to give it an all out beating on a trail... i suppose i may have to way until spring, but i do plan to find some good snow/winter trail riding soon... hopefully none of us will get shot by a druken/bored hunter.

anyone have a saftey orange vest i can borrow?
